Big wins at international cider competition
We are incredibly proud to announce that Black Apple took top honors at the New York International Cider Competition in February, winning Double Gold for our Blueberry Cider. Of the almost 200 ciders entered in the contest, only four were awarded the highest rating of Double Gold.
Along with the coveted Double Gold award, we received a Gold rating for our Hibiscus Cider and a Bronze rating for our Semi-Sweet Cider. We were also named the Arkansas Cider Producer of the Year.
“We know our Blueberry is pretty special,” said Trey Holt, co-founder and co-CEO. “What really makes it stand out is the tea blends that we use to give it depth and character.”
Like many Black Apple ciders, our Blueberry uses a meticulously curated tea blend to harmonize with an apple cider base. Blueberry Cider is available in cans and on tap at bars and restaurants from January until mid-Spring as part of Black Apple’s rotating seasonal series. People call the cidery year-round looking for it and many know to stock up as the season nears its close.
The New York International Cider Competition was judged by trade buyers tasting almost 200 ciders from 14 countries.
“We are incredibly proud to be the Arkansas Cider Producer of the Year,” said Leo Orpin, co-founder and co-CEO. “It’s especially meaningful to us as we expand the availability of cans around the state.”
Black Apple is made wholly in Arkansas, with a special series – the Ozark Series – featuring juices from the Ozark Mountains. Cans of Blueberry, Strawberry, Hibiscus, and Semi-Sweet will be available statewide beginning in April. Looking for Black Apple near you? Check out our map.
